Learn About the New International Certification Achieved by Horcalsa

Horcalsa’s hydrated lime has received the FSSC 22000 certification from the British Standards Institution. This certification focuses on food safety in producing industrial lime and special hydrated lime for mills, making Horcalsa the first lime company in Central America to earn this distinction.

The certification integrates ISO 22000:2018, ISO TS 22002-1:2009 standards, ensuring Horcalsa products meet the highest food safety standards.

The certification process began in 2019 but was interrupted by the global pandemic.

In 2023, the process resumed, and the Management Systems Department at Planta San Miguel conducted a thorough diagnosis and adapted its facilities and operations to meet industry best practices.

For Progreso and its Horcalsa brand, this achievement is significant as it raises the quality and safety standards of their products.

Strengthening the Commitment to Quality

Mario Orellana, General Manager for Guatemala and Belize at Cementos Progreso, indicated that this achievement is an industry milestone for the region.

«For Horcalsa, obtaining this certification is a monumental milestone. We are not only the first lime company in the region to achieve it, but we have also undergone a rigorous process to attain it.»

Ana Miriam Obregón, Manager of the Lime Business at Progreso, highlighted: «Obtaining certification in the food safety management system reinforces our values as an organization and our ethical commitment to our customers and the industry, providing quality service to the entire Central American region.»

With this certification, Horcalsa not only meets the needs of its customers but also raises the quality standards of its products, ensuring their safety and consolidating its leadership within the region.
