Carlos F. Novella Foundation promotes child development in vulnerable communities in Guatemala

The Carlos F. Novella Foundation promotes the progress of Community Centers for Integral Child Development (CECODII) in the municipality of Sanarate to combat malnutrition and improve care for children from 0 to 4 years of age.

The Carlos F. Novella Foundation continues to join efforts against child malnutrition and to improve children’s integral development in Guatemala.

As of 2022, the foundation signed an agreement with the Ministry of Education (Mineduc) to implement and finance the Acompáñame a Crecer program, which seeks to establish Community Centers for Integral Child Development (CECODII) in vulnerable communities throughout the country.

This agreement ensures new centers where children from 0 to 4 years of age receive comprehensive care.

The Carlos F. Novella Foundation’s contributes to these centers by providing educational managers, trained personnel, educational materials, and improvements to the centers’ facilities.

Four new centers

In 2024, the foundation inaugurated three new CECODIIs in San Juan Sacatepéquez, Lo de Ramos, La Sexta and El Pilar I, as well as one in La Coyotera, in the municipality of Sanarate, department of Progreso.

During the inauguration, authorities from the Mineduc, the Ministry of Public Health, and representatives of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation were present.

This new center will offer local children the opportunity to access early stimulation, nutrition and education services.

These mothers play a fundamental role in ensuring the proper development of the children both in the centers and in their homes.

One of the key strategies of the program is the training of educator mothers, who receive training to replicate good practices in stimulation and battle against child malnutrition.
