Cementos Progreso donates over 40 thousand trees for reforestation effort in El Progreso

Cementos Progreso, as part of its commitment to the environment, donated 42,800 trees to the Northeast Regional Office of the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources (MARN), which covers the Departments of El Progreso, Zacapa, Chiquimula and Izabal, to support reforestation activities in this area.

The donation, which has been managed by the Department of Environmental Management of Progreso, comes in response to a request from an El Progreso delegation, which requires trees to recuperate the forest cover in different areas of these municipalities.

The donated trees are distributed as follows:

– 3,000 Madre cacao trees

– 10,200 Cedar trees

– 10,400 Mahogany trees

– 3,200 Matilisguate trees

– 6,000 Oocarpa Pine trees

– 10,000 common cypress trees

How trees donated to El Progreso will be used

These trees will be used to restore 38 hectares in an intensive system, benefiting biodiversity, climate, and local communities.

The handover took place at Finca San Miguel Río Abajo, with the participation of representatives of Cementos Progreso and MARN.

Thus, Cementos Progreso positions itself locally and nationally as an important ally to the MARN in replenishing forest cover nationwide. It also strengthens its position as a local and national environmental leader, demonstrating its social responsibility and sustainable vision.

With this donation, Cementos Progreso contributes to the reforestation strategy which directly impacts the landscape restoration program, promoted by MARN with the objective of improving the population’s quality of life.
