San Miguel Plant completes the maintenance of furnace 462

The multidisciplinary teams at the San Miguel Plant in Sanarate, El Progreso, Guatemala, performed maintenance on furnace 462, which is key to the company's operations and sustainability. During the critical routes in this task, two meters of ferrule and the rim of the furnace's largest stack were changed.

On February 11, 2023, maintenance began and culminated on March 20 at around 3:30 AM. In this process, a series of events were overcome, which are accompanied by unexpected occurrences.

Behaving as reporters and researchers, allowed the precise moment of the furnace’s start-up to be captured. The success factors and lessons learned, significantly strengthened knowledge transfer within the multidisciplinary teams.

This victory of the San Miguel Plant team allows us to comply with the ICM’s (Crucially Important Goals) but also to participate in generating and transferring critical knowledge.
