Virgilio Barrera inspires us to grow and dream with his story

After 29 years of continuous work in Progreso, Virgilio knows that the reward for a job well done is the peace and tranquility he feels when he arrives to his family.

Virgilio began his story at Progreso with the responsibility of keeping a large space in Finca La Pedrera clean.

With a broom in hand, the now head of maintenance recalls that his first job assignment was to sweep with care and dedication. «I joined as a sweeper. You better believe it. For a long time, my job was to sweep the plant spaces and administrative offices at La Pedrera in Zone 6.»

During that time, he learned the value of punctuality, responsibility, and the commitment of take on assignments is fundamental to becoming a good man.

«The commitment we feel working at Progreso is unique. All of us who are part of the maintenance team have many responsibilities and we fulfill them with joy because we belong to a place where we are like a family.»

Steady steps

Virgilio went from being a janitorial worker to a forklift operator. «When I was invited to do that job, I didn’t even know how to ride a bicycle,» he says. «I had worked as a plumber and then because of the company’s needs I learned in record time. This situation made me realize that anything is possible with perseverance and courage.»

During this time, Virgilio was able to consolidate the welfare of his family, build a decent house, provide education and health to his four children, and serve as an example to his family and friends.

29 years later and with the same dedication, he begins his work at five o’clock in the morning, making a general tour to see what tools will be used and how many collaborators will participate in the operation.

Training is also one of the main differentiating elements in Virgilio’s life, as he has received a huge number of courses and certifications that guarantee that his work is carried out in a technical and appropriate manner

«Hiring personnel has a lot to do with experience but above all with values in Progreso, that’s why I tell the young people who work with me to study, to be trained to build a better future.»

The phrase:

«A job well done, says what we are made of».
