One of Cementos Progreso’s pillars is being a responsible citizen, and therefore, activities and projects are consistently carried out to positively impact the lives of communities surrounding the company’s operations.
In this instance, a total of 20 families in four communities near the Colorado Plant benefited from a concrete floor, a result of a significant number of employees’ solidarity and commitment to values.
After three months of planning, a total of one hundred volunteers from Cementos Progreso Costa Rica, Habitat for Humanity, and Pedregal, joined forces to carry out this project, benefiting over 100 people who kept dirt floors in their homes.
The experience was meaningful for all volunteers who, from early morning, visited the communities and, after hard work, achieved the goal of building 20 concrete floors..
Home is a refuge for privacy and building family life. A healthy home meets physical, social, and mental needs. It provides security, comfort, privacy, hygiene, well-being, space, light, and water. Families experiencing the security of living in a suitable home have a greater chance of creating opportunities for themselves and their community.
According to reports from Habitat for Humanity, dirt floors are known to harbor parasites and bacteria that can cause severe illnesses, such as diarrhea, parasitic infections, respiratory diseases, anemia, immunodeficiency, and malnutrition. This is why Progreso works on this regional initiative to ensure dignified access to a healthy home for more than a hundred thousand families across the region.
