Concrete, cement, and aggregates are fundamental to sustainable construction, and Progreso’s commitment in this area has been recognized by the Concrete Sustainability Council (CSC).
The certifications awarded to Mixto Listo, Cementos Progreso and Agreca position these Progreso business units as leaders in responsible practices both in Latin America and around the world.
Mixto Listo celebrated the recertification of its five main plants, consolidating its commitment to operational and environmental excellence.
Cementos Progreso achieved certification of its San Miguel and San Gabriel plants, placing it among the three most outstanding cement companies in the Americas and in 30th and 31st place globally.
Meanwhile, Agreca marked a milestone by becoming the first aggregates company to be certified in Latin American.
These certifications not only validate Progreso’s environmental commitment, but also drive sustainable practice adoption throughout the construction industry.
According to Cynthia Imesch, CSC coordinator, “Progreso’s achievements inspire the entire industry to follow its lead toward a more responsible future.”
By meeting the highest international standards, these certifications generate trust among developers, architects, and contractors, promoting more efficient processes and reducing environmental impact.
The project was supported by Oneplanet Network and PNUMA, reaffirming that in Central America the industry can operate under global standards, setting a regional precedent.
Progreso also leads initiatives that combine innovation and sustainability, such as the Beta Project, a structure created by 3D printing concrete using local raw materials. This breakthrough optimizes resources and reinforces sustainable construction principles.
In 2024, Progreso allocated US$6.1 million in community investments, benefiting more than 170,000 people. Among its projects, HogaRES, stands out. The project transformed 5,000 homes by replacing dirt floors with concrete floors, improving the quality of life of families.
Progreso’s integrated approach encompasses efficient water management, waste co-processing, and responsible forest management, demonstrating that sustainability is a fundamental pillar of its business model.
As José Raúl González, CEO of Progreso, commented: “We are a company where profits are not the goal, but the result of living according to our values”.
