A Festival to Reaffirm and Believe in the Value of Family!

The festival’s objective was to highlight the family’s important role in society, promote values and transmit messages of love and unity with Guatemala’s Zone 6 and Chinautla neighbors.

Last Sunday, May 21st, neighbors and volunteers enjoyed the first Family Day Festival held at Finca La Pedrera. The activity commemorated family as the place where principles and values that define community life are learned.

The activity brought together more than 900 people who filled the farm’s gardens with joy and smiles. From generation to generation, families develop ways of living together and over time, they become a cultural and tangible legacy to communities.

The following were some of the activities that took place: The human mosaic, karaoke, super balls, jumping, bolichefut, family baskets, lottery, spinning tops, and puzzles, among others.

With their energy and enthusiasm. the Unit for Violence Prevention (UPCV) from the Ministry of the Interior, and Scout Patrol #48 Cementos Progreso, joined the festival.

The family is society’s base

Family Day provides an opportunity to reflect on all these important and little-talked-about topics. It allows us to analyze the role and importance that all families play in different social spaces, as well as the value of each family member’s role.

Although the concept of family has been transformed in recent decades, evolving according to global trends and demographic changes, families everywhere in the world are considered the basic unit of society.

The festival’s first edition seeks to generate community processes with neighbors from Zone 6 and the municipality of Chinautla. It seeks to turn this space into a true tradition for families who live in these sectors.

A historic date

The International Day of Families is celebrated every year on May 15th. It was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 47/237 of September 20, 1993, with the purpose of raising awareness of family-related issues and fostering family ties.
