The deputy director of the Real Madrid Foundation, Iker Casillas, visited Guatemala and spent time with the boys and girls of the Real Madrid Foundation Socio-Sports School, implemented in the country in partnership with the Carlos F. Novella Foundation.
With enthusiasm in their eyes and the expectation of meeting the deputy director of the Real Madrid Foundation, Iker Casillas, two groups of boys and girls from the Real Madrid Foundation Social Sports Schools (ESDs) implemented in the country with the collaboration of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, had the opportunity to participate in an event that took place at the Cementos Progreso Stadium and in San Juan Sacatepéquez
Casillas shared a message of hope and inspiration were he encouraged the students to continue practicing sports. The group was made up of over 400 teens, boys and girls from the Carlos F. Novella Foundation Socio-Sports School based in San Juan Sacatepéquez, El Progreso and from zone 6 of the capital city.
With these activities, the training in values received by soccer and basketball students is reinforced, which directly affects positive leadership and service.
Since 2012, the strategic alliance between the Carlos F. Novella Foundation and the Real Madrid Foundation has offered guatemalan children the opportunity to complement their regular academic training, combining it with values through the practice of sports, following the methodology of the Royal Foundation Madrid. To date, more than 8,900 minors have benefited from the six social sports schools located in San Juan Sacatepéquez, El Progreso and in zone 6 of Guatemala City.
According to Roberto, one of the children benefited by the program during a conversation with Casillas, assured that in his training he has learned fair play, responsibility and discipline to be better companions. Rosemarie, another of the girls told the former player the importance of values in sports and education to be better people and citizens.
Casillas recently visited Guatemala to formalize a new alliance for the Real Madrid Foundation Social Sports Schools (ESDs) project developed in our country with the collaboration of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation. This joint work will benefit more than 1,200 people, in order to support them in closing the digital gap for their comprehensive development.
On the other hand, Cecilia Dougherty, president of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, stated “We are pleased to join efforts to promote the development of technological skills in the students and teachers of our social sports schools and educational centers. With this type of alliance, an important space is provided for training in values, interpersonal development and social inclusion and we reaffirm our commitment to our transcendent purpose: To build together the country where we want to live.”
