Juan Carlos el “Pin” Plata is without a doubt one of the greatest figures in Guatemalan football. His historic mark of 411 goals is just a small part of a historical legacy in the most popular sport in the country.
Guatemalan director Kenneth Müller will be in charge of turning this new project into a documentary with the support of Guatemalan companies Cementos Progreso, Banrural, Pollo Campero, Tigo, Tortrix and a cast of international class.
The director of the project assured that, “the life of Juan Carlos Pin Plata, is the reflection of the Guatemalan who fights, who feels and above all who changes lives, although he has already changed thousands of Guatemalans, I am sure that his story will transcend borders and move hearts and the hopes many of our countries get those so much needed good news.”
During the presentation of the film, Juan Carlos “Pin” Plata, expressed his gratitude and happiness for the achievement of this project.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for the public to learn about my life, my passion and dedication to soccer and how my skills and abilities got to be known so I could be called to join the Municipal CSD. Likewise, it´s a great satisfaction to know this film can be a source of inspiration for many people who dream of achieving their goals.”
Great talents have joined Müller’s fourth film, including the only Central American winner of the Oscar from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Salvadoran Andre Guttfreund. Also, as part of the international cast, the renowned Mexican actor Mario Zaragoza will participate, (Actor in series such as Luis Miguel, Man Of Fire and Get the gringo) and Leonardo García, Mexican-American actor.
One of the great surprises of the cast is the participation of several people who play on the «La Manía Villatoro» field, located in zone 6 of the city, where Juan Carlos Plata himself was discovered along with his brother.
The film will premiere on September 15 in Guatemala City with the entire cast and amidst the Independence festivities, this an exhibition of gratitude and honor for the country.
Other than being the top scorer for Municipal, he is the second highest scorer for the team, only behind Carlos Ruiz who has sixty goals. In addition, he was the world’s top active scorer in top division leagues according to the IFFHS with a total of 287 goals in 513 matches, and finished his career with a total of 411 goals. He is the only Guatemalan soccer player who managed to get points from a world champion team in official matches with a goal. (Guatemala 1-1 Brazil, on February 5, 1998).
He also presented the «Man of the Match» trophy to the Argentine Lionel Messi, after the triumph of the albiceleste over Switzerland to advance to the quarterfinals in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
