Tigo Guatemala joins the Social Sports Schools (ESDs) project from the Real Madrid Foundation that is implemented in the country with the collaboration of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation. This joint work will benefit over 1,200 people, with the goal of supporting them in closing the digital gap for their integral development.

The Alliance arises from an agreement signed at a regional level with the help of the Real Madrid Foundation, the foundation will support for 5 years over 65 socio-sporting projects implemented to benefit more than 11,000 girls, boys and youth in the 9 countries of Latin America where Tigo has a presence.

Among the projects to be carried out, Tigo will train teachers in safe and productive use of the Internet through the «Technological Teaching» program and, in online teaching techniques and soft skills with the «Maestr@s Conectad@s» Program. Likewise, it will provide training to the teachers, mothers and sisters of the girls and boys who are part of the Socio-Sports Schools (ESDs) through the “Connected” Program to support their digital empowerment. There´s a plan to promote volunteering projects, all of this alongside the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, a local partner for the Real Madrid Foundation.

The first phase of the project began with training in the «Technological Education» Program, which aims to provide safe and responsible browsing on the Internet and social networks for Guatemalan children, at the same time they can make the most of the opportunities technology offers. The program began in November 2021, having ended last January with a total of 71 trained teachers, which will directly benefit more than 1,150 girls and boys.

“We are proud to be able to join forces with the Real Madrid Foundation to promote digitization, and specifically in this first phase that we are finishing, the safe, responsible, and creative use of the internet and social networks. Through our Technological Education program, we seek to provide tools so girls and boys can identify online risks and at the same time, take advantage of all the opportunities that their use represents in a responsible manner”, comments Luis Valladares, General Manager of Tigo Guatemala.

The presentation of this alliance was attended by Iker Casillas, Deputy Director General of the Real Madrid Foundation. During the event he highlighted “In collaboration with Tigo and the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, we are going to improve the lives of thousands of families, building a better future for Guatemala; a more advanced, fair, and better communicated society with greater opportunities”.

On the other hand, Cecilia Dougherty, president of the Carlos F. Novella Foundation, stated “We are pleased to join efforts to promote the development of technological skills in the students and teachers of our social sports schools and educational centers. With this type of alliance, an important space is provided for training in values, interpersonal development and social inclusion and we reaffirm our commitment to our transcendent purpose: To build together the country where we want to live.”
