Cementos Progreso, under the leadership of its Environmental Management Manager Juan Ramón Aguilar, has established itself as a benchmark in the region in terms of environmental responsibility.
His innovative and holistic approach has taken sustainability beyond the conventional, encompassing not only its industrial and commercial activities, but also its supply chain.
This environmental leadership is based on five strategic pillars, starting with Resilient and Sustainable Construction.
This initiative is reflected in infrastructure development that not only meets the highest environmental standards, but is also capable of withstanding and adapting to climate challenges.
Second, water management has become a crucial area of focus.
The company has implemented rainwater reservoirs with a total capacity of 266,000 cubic meters, ensuring efficient and sustainable use of this vital resource.
In addition, concrete reuse reaches 12% in Guatemala and 7% in Costa Rica, demonstrating a tangible commitment to reducing water consumption.
The third pillar, the circular economy, has enabled the company to achieve a Clinker factor of 69%, five percentage points below the world average, underscoring its efficiency in cement production.
In terms of energy and climate variability, Cementos Progreso has obtained ISO 14064 certification, standing out for its climate leadership in the region.
With 61% of the energy used in Guatemala coming from renewable sources, the company is leading the way to a more sustainable future.
Finally, the biodiversity pillar has been another area in which significant progress has been made, generating 35 biological monitors by the end of 2023.
These efforts allow for an accurate systematization of ecosystems, ensuring that they remain balanced and healthy.
