Carlos F. Novella Foundation Supports Orthopedic Surgeries in the Country

The Guatemalan American Foundation for Advanced Orthopedic Surgery - Fundaorto, with the Carlos F. Novella Foundation’s support, organized the "Melodies of Hope," marimba concert, performed by the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Guatemala’s female concert marimba group.

This event aimed to raise funds to support Fundaorto in its mission to provide high-quality orthopedic surgeries for individuals in need who suffer from degenerative joint diseases, especially of the hip and knee.

The concert was a unique cultural experience, full of Guatemalan art and tradition. The marimba music, played by talented artists, took us on a sonic journey through Guatemala’s cultural richness.

Additionally, there was a special performance by «Arpas en Armonía,» led by prominent musicians, and the Carlos F. Novella School of Music under the direction of Brendi Boj, who amazed attendees with this beautiful instrument.

Throughout the 2023 season, its 12 members have performed in various significant venues in the country, such as the Railway Museum, Flavio Herrera Cultural Center, Mariscal USAC, Post, Telegraph, Philately Museum, and Teatro Abril. This contributes to the constructive use of leisure time for children and adolescents, strengthens relationships between neighbors, and promotes art to build a sense of community.

Living the Value of Solidarity

The ticket sales from this event directly contribute to Fundaorto’s mission: providing high-quality orthopedic surgeries to those who need them the most.

This nonprofit organization, founded in 1995, is dedicated to delivering high-quality knee and hip surgeries to those in need in Guatemala. It has been committed to improving the quality of life for those suffering from degenerative joint diseases.

The female concert marimba group is one of the Ministry of Culture and Sports’s seven artistic institutions dedicated to rescuing, promoting, and disseminating Guatemalan marimba music. They perform popular and academic folk music by Guatemalan composers, as well as adaptations of national and international pieces not originally composed for marimba, showcasing the instrument’s versatility.

Carlos F. Novella School of Music

By supporting these events and its student’s education, the Carlos F. Novella School of Music is creating an environment so that local children and young people may contribute to the community by developing their musical talents. Currently, more than 300 residents of zone 6 and Chinautla are part of the school.
