Of the many uses of lime in construction, plastering is undoubtedly one of the most common and preferred ones. Many builders prefer to use lime in their plaster because it allows them to cover or coat surfaces such as walls or slabs to even out or repair imperfections.

Plaster mortar is the most durable coating material thanks to its resistance. Its main function is to protect exterior or interior surfaces. Likewise, lime plaster gives a uniform appearance to a structure in a rustic or fine manner, depending on the desired finish. Although it is very efficient and durable, lime plaster is not designed to provide an aesthetic appearance. However, its functionality and durability make it a reliable mortar.

To make good plaster, it is necessary to have UGC cement, Horcalsa’s lime, and sand (the type of sand varies according to the region). Progreso’s unit, Horcalsa, has hydrated lime and white lime for coating mortars such as plaster. Among other functions that can be given to lime as a coating mortar we can find sifting, vertical sifting, re-drained sifting and whitening.

Lime mortars are used to repair imperfections in construction such as wall, column and beam slumps; lack of mortar between blocks; highlighted slabs or sills; and, uneven concrete or clay blocks.
