Currently, the Socio-Sports School in Guatemala City has 425 students, comprised of boys, girls, and young people in social vulnerability. The program provides a healthy alternative in their free time through sports, social, and environmental activities.
The four schools in San Juan Sacatepéquez serve 536 boys and girls, with 50% being female beneficiaries. The focus is on instilling the value of respect for cultural identity. Likewise, in El Progreso, five schools with 440 beneficiaries strengthen integration among people with different abilities.
Studies by UNESCO establish that children and adolescents, who become integrated into their environment and frequently participate in sports activities, maintain good interpersonal relationships, and reject violence in all its forms.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) highlight sports growing contribution as a tool for peace, as well as promoting tolerance and respect. It also emphasizes how sports can contribute to community empowerment, including individuals (especially children, women, and youth), health, education, and social inclusion.
Carlos F. Novella Foundation’s Socio-Sports School believes that sports offer an opportunity for at-risk-youth to develop skills, allowing them to face daily challenges effectively. Proof that sport-centered prevention models are efficient is how they collaborate with the Real Madrid Foundation is proof.
More than eight thousand boys, girls, and adolescents have been trained, with the support of the Real Madrid Foundation, in Socio-Sports Schools.
