With this public-private partnership, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) and Cementos Progreso will develop programs that promote the strengthening of disaster risk reduction in Guatemala.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) and Cementos Progreso renewed a cooperation agreement in order to strengthen the risk reduction of natural disasters.

The purpose of signing the document is to continue with the lines of joint cooperation and «promote the integral development of people in communities at risk, through community development programs and projects, as well as coordinate efforts for the well-being of society.» , affirmed Oscar Cossío, secretary of the Conred.

According to Mario Orellana, general manager of Cementos Progreso, the agreement allows the exchange of training and, in some cases, Cementos Progreso can provide materials and support with heavy machinery to remove landslides that are close to the places where the company operates.

With the renewal of this public-private alliance, a relationship that dates back years is strengthened. Prevention campaigns to show the dangers of pyrotechnic fires, of driving while intoxicated, are some of the initiatives that have been previously developed jointly. Orellana also recalled, by way of example, the support provided in the past after the earthquake in San Marcos or the eruption of the Volcán de Fuego and the passage of other natural phenomena in the country.

The signing of this inter-institutional cooperation agreement will be governed by principles of good faith, corporate social responsibility and collaboration, at the same time, both institutions will define joint lines of cooperation, this within a framework of coordination, support and reciprocal benefit.
