Lime is one of the most versatile substances that exist due to it´s multiples uses in industry, construction, environmental protection, agriculture and in the home. Today we will learn how to use Horcalsa lime to make 100% ecological and excellent quality paints.

The versatility of lime is impressive. In addition to being a strategic ally in construction, this product has multiple benefits to develop different activities and practices. Follow the following four easy steps to learn how to paint a wall with Horcalsa lime.

Step 1

As in any process in which the walls are to be painted or worked, they must be freed from furniture, accessories and you also have to cover the floor. You should fix any bumps or damage to the wall with putty for the superficial ones or plaster if they are more than 3-5 cm deep.

Check the materials with which the wall is made as there are materials where lime-based paint is not compatible.

Step 2

Remove the old layer of lime with moisture. The walls are wetted with a damp sponge or brush and the old lime is removed with a trowel (tool in the form of a flat iron with a potholder).

If the coating is well adhered, just use a broom or brush and remove excess dust, mold or substances adhering to the walls.

Step 3

Prepare the paint according to the process described in the recipe book for this article or follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 4

When applying it to the wall, always remove excess paint and preferably apply the paint with a brush or roller. Minimum, apply two coats up to five coats if they are thin and require a good coating of the wall surfaces where you apply the lime paints.

In each coat of paint, you should wait for it to dry well, you can wait between 3 and 48 hours between each coat, because the coverage and whitening effect increases over time. The preparation must be as indicated in the recipe book when preparing each paint for each coat.

It should be considered that the chosen color tone decreases the color of the paint by up to 50% when drying. That is why a reasonable percentage of the pigment should be used, in relation to the desired shade.

Add the water and the white glue, mix until obtaining a homogeneous consistency.
